If you are interested in attending either undergraduate or graduate classes on an audit basis, you may do so with the written consent of the instructor.
Auditors do not participate in class assignments or take exams, but “audit” is recorded on your transcript. With the exception of senior citizens, auditors are required to pay regular course fees. As an auditor, you can later change to credit status if you obtain the necessary permissions within the time specified. A change from credit to audit status is also possible:
- Non-degree students: You may change a class from audit to credit with the consent of a Continuing Studies advisor and the instructor, provided the change is made before the midpoint of the scheduled class meetings. Instructor and advisor consent is also required to switch a class to audit. Changing to audit status is equivalent to dropping a class. To change a class from credit to audit, you should follow the procedures outlined in Dropping a Class. A notation of the change and a “W” will appear on your transcript, in addition to the audit notation.
- Senior citizens (i.e., persons 62 years of age or older): You may enroll as an auditor in most undergraduate classes at the start of the class, provided the instructor’s consent has been obtained and space exists. Laboratory or studio courses are excluded from the Senior Citizen Auditor program. A $15 fee, paid once during May Term or each Summer Session, covers all undergraduate courses and enrollment for that session. For additional information on the Senior Citizen Auditor Program, please call 860-486-4631 or write to the University of Connecticut, Center for Continuing Studies, Student and Financial Services Office, One Bishop Circle, Unit 4056, Storrs, CT 06269-4056.
