CPCU Personal Lines Track Courses
CPCU 555 – Personal Risk Management and Property-Liability Insurance
This course in the Personal Lines track of the CPCU program examines the use of insurance and non-insurance techniques to manage the loss exposures of individuals and families. The course includes extensive study of homeowners and personal automobile insurance topics. It also includes developing and pricing personal insurance products, underwriting profitability for personal insurance, and gaining efficiencies in personal insurance operations.
CPCU 556 – Personal Financial Planning
This course covers a wide range of financial planning topics and techniques appropriate for individuals and families. Topics include life insurance, individual annuity contracts, health and disability insurance, long-term care insurance, social security, basic investment principles, equity and fixed-income investments, mutual funds, asset allocation, planning for retirement, planning for distributions from qualified retirement plans and IRA's, income tax planning, the transfer tax system, and estate planning.
CPCU 557 – Survey of Commercial Risk Management and Insurance
The purpose of this course is to give Personal Lines students an understanding of commercial loss exposures along with insurance and financial planning techniques to manage them. Topics covered include: commercial property insurance, business income insurance, commercial crime and equipment breakdown insurance, inland and ocean marine insurance, commercial general liability insurance, commercial automobile insurance, business owners policies and farm insurance, workers compensation and employer's liability insurance. The course also includes an introduction to risk financing, risk financing objectives and risk financing plans. There is a waiver for CPCU 557 students who hold INS Certificates.
