Healthcare Information Technology
- Online Certificate Program

This non-credit certificate program is designed to meet the educational needs of the entry- to mid-level IT staff member and the experienced healthcare staff member seeking to develop Information Technology skills.

The program consists of six (6) courses that effectively integrate industry expertise with cutting edge research and was developed in collaboration with the University of Connecticut Center for Healthcare and Insurance Studies at the School of Business, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the UConn Center for Continuing Studies

To earn the certificate, you must successfully complete one of the two Foundation courses and two each of the basic and advanced courses for a total of 5 - 10 courses. Courses are offered three times per year and students may choose to begin with the Foundation course most convenient to their schedule.

Program Features

  • The entire certificate program is offered online to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults; there are no textbooks to purchase.
  • Courses are 5 weeks long and coursework is paced in week-long modules.
  • Approximately five (5) hours per week should be dedicated to each course.
  • Courses are asynchronous, which means you can log on and work at your own pace at any hour of the day.
  • Each course involves reading, group discussion and independent learning activities.
  • Each course is designed to provide 25 contact hours.
  • Students receive a grade of Complete or Incomplete based on submission of completed assignments and active participation in online discussion postings.
  • Students who successfully complete five (5) courses of the program will earn their Healthcare IT Certificate.
  • A college degree is not required to apply for this program.

Introductory Foundation Courses

Two foundation courses are offered as entry points to the certificate program. Individuals planning to complete the entire program must enroll in one of these two courses before taking additional courses. Consider your own professional background when making your selection.

Management and Organization of the U.S. Healthcare System is designed for IT professionals seeking an understanding of how Information Technology is applied within the healthcare field.

Information Technology and Healthcare IT Infrastructure is designed to introduce healthcare professionals to IT concepts.
