Denis Finnegan is the Assistant Vice President of Training at The Hartford Financial Services Group. He manages a nationwide staff of training professionals who develop insurance technical courses and teach all facets of the Property and Causality profession.  Denis has been at The Hartford for 14 years and during that time he has brought eLearning, videoconference based education, and web-based education to the organization. He was the Assistant VP of Corporate Education before his current position, responsible for all aspects of general business training and leadership training.

Before The Hartford, Denis served as a Naval Officer in the U.S. Navy; he retired in 1994 as a Lieutenant Commander after 24 years.  His career included 11 years as an enlisted submarine technician and the second half as a submarine weapons officer.  On three occasions, totally 12 years, he taught and managed education functions at the Naval Submarine School, culminating as the director of distance learning for the submarine force.

Denis is a lifelong alternative learner, who has pursued his education part time, at sea on submarines, and via distance learning. He has earned a B.S. in vocational education from Southern Illinois University, a M.A. from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
