Course Description

This course covers the role of the professional project manager (PM) from initiation through implementation to termination. The focus is on developing both the technical and leadership skills that PMs need to effectively operate in a project environment. Topics covered include: requirements definition, project selection, resource planning, scheduling, budgeting, information flow, project control, and termination procedures. A primary focus is sharing real-world project management experiences with your peers.

Course Objectives

  1. Define actionable project specifications for a cross-functional team, including customers, managers, and technical experts.
  2. Apply Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) tasks to an activity network diagram to include time and financial resource allocations, ultimately creating a resource-laden schedule (RLS).
  3. Use oral, written, and computer information system-based media to effectively communicate project status information to all levels of an organization.
  4. Articulate why traditional consulting-based organizations must have competent project managers.
