Writing Sample InformationIdeally, the writing sample should address an issue of interest to the professional Human Resource Management (HRM) community, so for example traditional topic areas such as selection, strategic staffing, training and development, compensation, job analysis, performance management are all appropriate to explore. So too would be papers on the still evolving strategic role of Human Resource in relation to facilitating organizational change and improving overall organizational effectiveness, and hence as a result we also entertain related papers on change, leadership, etc. We suggest you select a topic that resonates strongly with your interests and intellectual passions. The paper does not have to be exhaustive, but rather 'representative' of the quality/caliber of your writing and your research skills (essentially integrating 'some' of the existing literature/research on the topic you have chosen). If you don't have access to a research library, we recommend you utilize Google Scholar (for it tends to provide a reasonable sample of peer reviewed research), or if you are a member of a professional organization such as SHRM or ASTD, they also provide limited but useful access to white papers and peer reviewed research. The paper should be approximately 10 pages in length double spaced, with appropriate citations APA style preferred. Please send the completed paper to Dr. Peter Diplock at peter.diplock@uconn.edu as an attachment when done. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Diplock. |
