Non-Teaching PositionsCOMPUTER TECHNICAL SUPPORT The Center for Continuing Studies at the University of Connecticut is seeking a Computer Technical Support Consultant II (UCP VII). The successful/qualified candidate will be responsible for applications written in C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, Javascript, shell, HTML and ASP/ASP.NET and will be responsible for printed and on-line documentation. They will be able to administer and maintain servers and all aspects of Linux/Unix operations. This will include six physical servers and 35 Virtual servers. They will be able to support database design, data formatting, the exporting of data (static/live) and reporting. They will be able to troubleshoot and do error analysis. Finally, they will interact and consult with faculty, staff and students relating to computing and/or information technology issues. This is a full time, year long, end date appointment, renewable annually. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science and three years of related information technology experience. Demonstrated work knowledge of application development, data backup, security requirements, VMWare, MSSQL databases, web development, UNIX/LINUX/Microsoft server administration, HTML, DHTML, XML, JavaScript, C++, JAVA, PERL, ASP and PHP. They should be familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Flash, and Dreamweaver. They need to be able to work on strict timelines, have good communication skills, and be able to develop and implement support plans. Candidates need to demonstrate the ability to work well with people and in a team environment. Preferably, candidates should be prepared to present evidence demonstrating technical expertise and proficiency in the areas listed above. Instructional Designer I (UCP VII) The University of Connecticut’s Center for Continuing Studies is seeking an Instructional Designer in the Distance Education Office. This individual will work in a team environment to support the development of online courses in a variety of disciplines, including occupational safety and health, homeland security leadership, and web technology. The focus of this position is assisting content experts with the design and development of course content and the online learner experience; the position is less focused on the technology. This is a full time, year long, end date appointment, renewable annually. Qualifications: A Master’s degree in instructional design or a related field. One to three years experience using instructional design principles and practices. Must have demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills; strong organizational, writing and editing skills; excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with wide range of people including faculty and staff. Must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines; willingness to work flexible and irregular hours as needed, especially to meet course/semester start dates. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education or professional training environment; experience in online course development; and work experience with WebCT Vista and Macromedia DreamWeaver.
