Assistant/Associate Extension Faculty
Occupational Safety and Health

The Center for Continuing Studies and the Department of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for an Assistant /Associate Extension Faculty to participate in an Academic Partnership between the Department of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) and the Occupational Safety and Health program (OSH) in the Center for Continuing Studies (CCS).  This is an eleven month non-tenure track renewable appointment beginning Fall 2008. 

The successful applicant will assist in the development, coordination, and teaching of OSH and AHS courses both online and face to face.   Additional responsibilities include participation in scholarly research, student advising and outreach activities consistent with the mission of the University and college, and program review/planning.    The purpose of  this partnership is to provide traditional as well as returning adult students with knowledge about identifying and prioritizing environmental, occupational safety and health hazards and problems; evaluating risks posed by hazards/problems through analytical and/or empirical methods; developing prevention and control strategies to eliminate or minimize the hazards/problems and applying and validating the interventions developed. 

Minimum Qualifications:  A Master’s degree in a field of Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health.  Three years teaching in an accredited institution of higher education with excellent teaching reviews.  Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health or related discipline.  Five years working as a professional in a field in Environment/Occupational Safety and Health.  Knowledge and experience in teaching online and/or didactic courses in Occupational Health and safety.

Adjunct Faculty/Instructors
Master of Professional Studies and Bachelor of General Studies Programs

The Center for Continuing Studies at the University of Connecticut is seeking adjunct faculty to teach graduate online courses in Strategic Human Resource Management, Strategic Staffing/Selection, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, Quantitative Analysis, and undergraduate level Occupational Safety & Health.

Course assignments are currently available for Fall 2008.  Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. (for graduate level courses) or a Masters Degree (for undergraduate) in a relevant field of study with relevant work experience.

Assistant/Associate Extension Professor
(Human Resources Management)

The Center for Continuing Studies at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Extension Professor of Management.  This position is an 11-month appointment beginning Fall 2008 and reports to the Associate Director of the Center for Continuing Studies.   

The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate level courses in Human Resources Management.  Other duties include:  actively participating in their academic and professional communities through scholarly activities, fulfilling programmatic responsibilities and providing service to both CCS and the University. 

Minimum Qualifications:  A Ph.D. in Business and evidence of outstanding teaching in Human Resources Management, three years of teaching in a regionally accredited institution of higher education with excellent teaching reviews, work as a professional in a field of Business, demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. 

Preferred Qualification:  Work experience in the field of Human Resources Management, five years working as a professional in a field of Business, knowledge of the principles of adult education and knowledge about and experience with teaching via the web. 

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications.  This is a full time, non-tenure track position subject to annual renewals.

Instructors to conduct weekend classes at Tri-Campus locations (West Hartford, Torrington, Waterbury) and Stamford.
Academic disciplines and subjects include: Allied Health, Anthropology, Astronomy, Communication Sciences, English/Literature, History, Human Development and Family Studies, Film, Occupational Health & Safety, Economics, Physics of the Environment, Psychology, Sociology. A Ph.D. may be required for most departments, with some departments requiring a minimum of a Master's Degree. Teaching experience in higher education, particularly with adult students, is preferred.
