 Center Overview

Welcome to the Center for Continuing Studies at the University of Connecticut. At UConn, we pride ourselves on offering high quality programs and courses that address your lifelong educational needs. Whether you are looking for degree programs, non-credit programs, certificates, general interest courses, professional development/career enhancement opportunities, or specialized fine arts programs, we have a program for you.

If you already have two years of college experience and are interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree, our Bachelor of General Studies degree is a flexible and convenient program designed to meet the educational and career needs of working adults. You will work one-on-one with an academic advisor to develop a course of study designed to help you achieve your goals. You can also choose from a variety of study areas, including The American Experience, Cities and Community Life, Corporate and Organizational Studies, Human Services, Law and Society, Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health, Web Technology Studies. Your academic advisor will help you navigate through UConn's course offerings and ensure a clear path to your degree.

If you have a busy schedule that precludes attending classes face to face, please consider our Online Courses and programs, which allow you to access a UConn education from anywhere in the world.

The Master of Professional Studies (MPS) offers fields of study in Human Resource Management, Humanitarian Services Administration and Homeland Security Leadership. The MPS is a flexible, convenient online degree.

If you would like to enroll in any credit course that interests you, we also offer Non-Degree credit study that allows you to enroll in a majority of UConn classes without being admitted to a degree program. Non-Degree students who want to take graduate courses may need prior approval from the academic department. Please contact the Center for Continuing Studies if you plan to register for a graduate level course. Non-degree students earn the same regular credits as matriculated University of Connecticut students, but are not currently in a UConn degree program.

If you need to enhance your computer skills, we offer numerous information technology courses and certificate programs. Considering a career in the paralegal profession, or insurance fields? We offer a variety of professional certificate programs taught by industry practitioners that will give you the knowledge and skills you need to get started in these fields. The staff in Academic Partnerships and Special Programs will be happy to answer any of your questions regarding our non-credit professional development opportunities.

The Community School of the Arts (CSA), at the Mansfield Depot campus in Storrs, is a national model for music, performing and visual art instruction for students of all ages. CSA offers summer art and music camps as well as February and April vacation camps. CSA is also offering instruction at a number of public schools throughout the state to complement public school music education programs.

At the Stamford campus, we have a very active English as a Second Language Program. This program is in conjunction with an English for Special Purposes program that is available to companies with employees who have language skill needs.

The University of Connecticut American English Language Institute (UCAELI) offers a nationally accredited, full-time year-round intensive English program for international students on the Storrs main campus. Students live and study on the UCONN campus and have access to many university facilities and activities. UCAELI also offers part-time evening courses that prepare students for academic and professional pursuits. Customized summer programs combining English study and cultural learning are offered for students ages 13 - 17.

Visit our Web site often, as we are continually expanding our offerings to include more weekend and summer programs at our main campus in Storrs and at the Stamford, Avery Point, Hartford, Waterbury and Torrington regional campuses. We are always adding asynchronous computer courses and programs for degree-seeking students as well as for those seeking professional development opportunities in health care, tax assessing and computer training.

As we continue to enhance our educational offerings, we welcome and encourage your comments and suggestions.
