Instrumental and Voice Lessons

The Community School of the Arts has a professional faculty of over 50 instructors available to teach private instrumental and voice lessons at the Community School of the Arts on the Depot Campus in Storrs, on the main campus in the Music Department, or at select satellite locations.

sax playerLessons are available to students of all ages and ability levels on orchestral string instruments, wind and brass band instruments, piano and organ, guitar, and percussion instruments, as well as voice.

Private music students meet with an instructor once per week for 30, 45, or 60 minutes. The typical semester is 16 weeks beginning early September, late January, and late June (6-8 weeks). Lessons can begin at any time during the semester, and fees are prorated for the number of remaining weeks in the term.  Students will also have opportunities to perform through CSA student recitals held throughout the year.

CSA further offers individuals several other options through which to privately study music and enhance their musical experience.  For example, we offer introductory lessons, that are available on a limited basis for those who want to sample an instrument.

Students who would prefer to share a lesson or study with other students (2-3 people), can arrange semi-private partner lessons for some instruments.

Finally, Voice and Piano Skills, one of our most popular offerings, combines private, weekly, 30 minute lessons with instructions in solfege, reading music, and basic piano and vocal skills.
