Completing Your BGS Degree
Monitoring Your Degree Progress
Your study as a BGS student should be reviewed periodically to see if you are progressing satisfactorily toward finishing your degree requirements.
- You have the primary responsibility for monitoring your degree progress. You should review your status regularly in PeopleSoft.
- The BGS advising staff will also inform you of your progress and status concerning requirements.
- Completion of your degree program and graduation are not automatic upon earning 120 credits. You can only graduate and receive your BGS degree after an audit of your work has been done and there is official confirmation that all your requirements have been successfully fulfilled.
- In the semester prior to your planned graduation, you should meet with your advisor, who will submit your final plan of study to the University. For example, if you plan on graduating in May of 2009, your plan of study should be submitted in the fall of 2008.
Graduation and Commencement
- Graduation refers to the semester and year your degree is awarded. You can complete your degree at any time and officially graduate at the end of the spring, summer or fall of the year in which you complete all requirements. Diploma applications should be completed during the semester prior to the semester in which you intend to graduate, or by the 4th week of your final semester.
You may apply online through the Student Administration System (PeopleSoft)
by using this link to your log-in screen:
Log-in and follow this navigational path:

- Commencement refers to the actual ceremony where degree recipients are acknowledged. At UConn, undergraduate commencement is held at Storrs. Spring Undergraduate Commencement is held on the 2nd Sunday in May and Winter Commencement is held in December.
You are encouraged to participate by attending commencement when you have finished your degree. There is a reception for all BGS graduates, their families and friends on the day of commencement, with special arrangements for students and their families to park at the convenient reception location and take a bus to the commencement site.
You will receive detailed information about commencement directly from the University Registrar when it appears that you will graduate.
For more information, visit the UConn Commencement web site.
