Fall 2008/Spring 2009 Course Fees

Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) students pay course fees, which are a combination of University tuition and other University fees.

  • The course fees apply to all campuses.
  • Out-of-state fees are not charged to BGS students, regardless of state of residence.
  • If graduate courses or a combination of graduate courses and undergraduate courses are taken, the fee schedule will differ, and will be higher.
  • BGS students are ordinarily restricted to a maximum of 11 credits per semester; if granted permission to take more credits, 12+ rate applies.
  • Special fees apply to special-site courses.
  • BGS students with a "home" campus of Storrs are also required to pay a Student Union Building Fee each semester
  • BGS students taking courses at the Storrs ccampus are also required to pay a Transit Fee.

Check with a BGS advisor for more details.

6-11 credits   95 per semester
12+ credits   190 per semester

Parking Fee

Students are required to register vehicles and purchase parking permits at certain campuses. Check with the Business Office at a regional campus, with Traffic and Parking Services at Storrs, or your BGS advisor for information on parking fees and regulations.

Shuttle Bus Transit Fee (Storrs students only)

A $35 shuttle bus transit fee is charged to Storrs students only, once per semester.

Student Union Building Fee (Storrs students only)

A $13 Student Union Building fee is charged to Storrs students only, once per semester.

Late Registration/Payment Fee

Any registration received after published deadlines for fall semester, Winter Intersession, spring semester, May Term and Summer Sessions will be charged a $50 late registration/late payment fee.

Check Service Charge

A $25 non-refundable service charge is assessed each time a student’s bank does not honor a check paid to the University.

BGS Application and Evaluation Fee

A $95 application and evaluation fee is due upon submission of your application to a BGS advisor.

Continuous Registration Fee

Matriculated BGS students must register each fall and spring semester. Registration must be for:

1. A UConn credit class (in which case the Continuous Registration Fee is not required), or
2. A class at another college or university (in which case the student must register for GS 3201*, formerly GS 201), which requires an Infrastructure Maintenance Fee of $48, or
3. GS 3200* (formerly GS 200), Continuous Registration (which indicates that no class is being taken at any institution, including UConn), and requires a Continuous Registration Fee of $45 per semester, plus Infrastructure Fee of $48.

*Note that with course renumbering, effective Academic Year 2008/2009, the former GS 201 is now GS 3201, and the former GS 200 is now GS 3200.

Deposit Account

A $50 deposit account must be maintained at all times. This entitles students to student ID card validated each semester. The deposit is refunded, minus any fines, service charges, breakage charges, etc., once a student graduates or officially withdraws from the University.

Co-op Bookstore Fee

There is a one-time UConn Co-op bookstore membership fee of $25, which is refunded after graduation or official withdrawal from the University.

Other Fees/Charges

Additional fees and charges (i.e. room, meals, student health services, summer activities, lost ID cards) are available on the main University of Connecticut Web site.

Cancellations (Withdrawals) and Refunds

All registration cancellations (considered to be withdrawals from the University) must be made in writing to either campus registration staff or a BGS advisor, and can be either hand-delivered or mailed. If mailed, the post office cancellation date on the envelope will be used to determine the official cancellation date, for refund purposes. If delivered in person, the date of delivery to the campus will be used to determine the cancellation date.

The University grants a full refund of advanced fees to any student who is academically dismissed. In certain other instances, including illness, adjustments to the schedule of refunds can be made at the discretion of the Dean of Students.

Where notice of cancellation is received through the first day of classes of a semester, a full refund (less the nonrefundable acceptance fee and room deposit fee, if applicable) is made if fees have been paid in full.

Schedule for Refundable Fees

After the first day of classes, withdrawal adjustments are made only on refundable fees according to the following schedule:
